The UCLA Breast Center was first established in 1992 under the directorship of Dr. Susan Love. In 1996, the Breast Center was renamed as the Revlon/ UCLA Breast Center after receiving a generous and visionary gift from the Revlon Foundation to further the development of the Breast Center. Dr. Helena Chang was recruited in 1997 to lead the program development of multidisciplinary patient care in breast cancer.
The mission of the UCLA Breast Center is to bring the most comprehensive and compassionate care to our patients and to develop future medicine in order to end the suffering of women with breast cancer.
The Center is architecturally unique emphasizing calmness, beauty, and functionality. The attention to patients' clinical needs and emotional wellness reflects our commitment and inspiration to provide patient-centered care.
From the beginning, we provide our patients with multidisciplinary clinical care and one-stop shop services. Four interdisciplinary programs were developed, including a daily Diagnostic Program and three weekly programs: the Multidisciplinary, the High Risk, and the Pre-operative Surgical Education Programs. Patients with increased risk of having breast cancer, with a new breast cancer diagnosis, or with conditions yet to be diagnosed can all find the particular program(s) to meet their special needs. We, at the Revlon/UCLA Breast Center are committed to treat, to support, to inform and to empower our patients who seek their care at the Center.
To meet the challenge of developing tomorrow's medicine in detection, treatment and prevention of breast cancer, Dr. Chang leads the Gonda/Goldschmied - UCLA Breast Cancer Laboratory to study the molecular signatures of breast cancer. A Biospecimen Tissue Bank and a Clinical Trial Unit were also established to accelerate the translational application of the laboratory findings. Our research goal is to develop clinically useful tests based on the molecular signatures of breast for early detection of breast cancer and for developing personalized medicine for breast cancer treatment.
Through our visions and mission, we dedicate ourselves to serve our patients and to continuously advance standards in breast health care.
