Surgical Education Classes

Facing breast surgery is frightening for any woman. You may already know what your diagnosis, or you may need surgery to determine your diagnosis or to treat your breast problem. In either case, you may have many questions. By attending the Revlon/ UCLA Breast Center's Surgical Education Program, you can receive the relevant information and discuss your questions. The participants will gain a better understanding of the often-confusing terminology.

For women who will be having breast surgery, this program walks each person through the type of surgery they will be having. The "do's" and "don'ts" of surgical care before and after surgery are reviewed. In a warm and supportive group setting, women have an opportunity to discuss any questions or concerns they may have about their surgery and after care. The Surgical Education classes are held each week on Tuesday afternoons at the Simms/Mann Integrative Oncology Center in Suite # 502 in the same building as the Revlon/ UCLA Breast Center. Women are encouraged to bring a family member or friend to the class for support and to help clarify information that will be presented.

Your Team

A breast surgeon with experience in breast care will answer your questions, explain the recommended procedures and discuss the surgeries and recovery.

A psychologist will offer information about support  groups, personal & group counseling, stress reduction, Tai Gong, Tai Chi, yoga, meditation classes, and other psychosocial resources to help improve the quality of your life both before and after surgery.

In addition, a nurse practitioner from the plastic surgery service will also be present to discuss reconstruction options, including the associated perioperative care and management to optimize your recovery.

The goal of the Surgical Education Class offered by the Revlon/UCLA Breast Center and the Simms/Mann Integrative Oncology Center is to provide a caring environment where women can feel fully informed, confident and supported while going through a difficult process.  Through this program, we offer women the needed emotional, physical, and intellectual preparation for their breast surgery.
